If driving through Newry drive in the direction of Dublin until you come to the canal and Albert Basin, immediately in front of the Quays shopping centre. Turn left at the traffic lights and drive along the quayside and canal for one mile until you join the Drumalane Road at a T junction. Turn left and follow this road to Carlingford.

If coming on the A1 e.g. from Banbridge direction, turn left at the sign for Bernish Viewpoint and at the bottom of the slip road turn left on to Dorans Hill (the viewpoint is signed to the right); drive under the railway line and after a third of a mile turn right on to Watsons Road; drive for 200 yards before turning left on to Glen Hill. Follow Glen Hill for a third of a mile before turning left on to Dublin Road and after about 30 yards take sharp right onto Drumalane Road and follow this for 6.5 mile to Carlingford.

Entering Carlingford, drive through the arch with King John’s castle on your left. The car park is 350 yards further along on your right behind the former railway station (now tourist information office).
