Another perfect day
Keep safe, keep well, keep walking.

Despite an indifferent forecast with threats of rain we set off for Kilbroney hoping for the best and of course we were amply rewarded with another perfect day and some great walks. The rain stayed off (most of the time) for our Bar-B-Q. Well done everyone.

Meelmore
And it's all for me!.
A motley group of keen walkers started from the Meelmore carpark. Any doubts about whether we'd make the top of Meelmore were soon dispelled by the humour and enthusiasm of the group - slow but sure, we made progress to the top. Lunching by the wall is always our well-earned treat. An added bonus to our day was meeting a group of Mourne Heritage workers. With the help of volunteers from Citibank they were setting out to repair the well-worn stiles. Before we made our descent, the more curious of us headed off to inspect and try out a newly-completed stile. Our adventurous day was rounded off by one of the volunteers sharing tea and biscuits with the thirsty climbers from the luxury of his car boot. Ronnie got an extra treat of ice cream from Grahams in Rathfriland.

Undeterred by the poor forecast and a lack of walking companions John completed a solo circuit of Hillsborough Forest with only occasional light showers of rain.
Ott and Carn
John O. led a walk on a new route sometimes over rough terrain but with some spectacular waterfalls - starting on the Ott Track, climbing over Slieveloughshannagh, round Doan and down to the Silent Valley before returning via Carn and Ott Mountains. 11.5Km and 735 metres ascent.

What a super day. Perfect weather for Ruth guiding us from Helens Bay to Bangor Castle- before relaxing over lunch in the courtyard Café. Then enjoying the walled garden in the afternoon sunshine (the colours were simply outstanding) with the bonus a sculpture exhibition- exploring art in nature. Thank you Ruth for the 6/7 mile ramble- and we heard the woodpecker

Gosford
Ladies who lunch.
Dorothy and friends ignored the weather warnings and were rewarded with a dry walk at Gosford followed by an early lunch at the courthouse.
Benburb
A lovely walk in Benburb, a special place to me. We walked from the Priory downhill to the river Blackwater past Benburb Castle, built by Sir Richard Wingfield around 1615 on the site of a stronghold of Shane O’Neill. Crossing the river using the old white metal bridge, we followed the path between the Ulster Canal and the river which has carved a glorious gorge through the countryside. Stopped for a while to view the waterfalls from the river’s edge. On return we had lunch at the picnic tables in front of the Priory - such beautiful surroundings. Thanks to Ruth for leading the walk and John for driving - enjoyed the chat along the way.
