Oxford Island
Oxford Island bluebells
25 April 2025
Oxford Island always provides new experiences whether we are walking beside the Lough or through the wooded areas. Swallows with their distinctive deeply forked tails and white underparts nesting under the eves of its buildings, apple and cherry trees in full bloom and swathes of bluebells were just a few of the enjoyable aspects of our walk on Thursday ably led by Ruth. Her knowledge of the area added to the overall experience and perfect weather conditions completed our enjoyment.

A great coastal dander at Ballyhornan- just over 5 miles. The sandmartins average 200 miles a day on the wing during their 3,400 mile journey from Africa! Many thanks to our guide Ruth and driver Paddy. Another perfect day.

Bloody Bridge to Donard Park
Bloody Bridge
03 April 2025
Herbie led his group of walkers from Bloody Bridge to Donard Park the hard way - round the back of Donard, but nobody complained. It was another perfect day out in the Mournes.
We saw nothing up Slieve Croob but ourselves - and a gale blowing reminded us of a previous visit when we huddled together at the summit like emperor penguins in a blizzard. Another perfect day?

It was only Gary, Gerry and Roy on a 5.87 mile hike from Deers Meadow to Pigeon, Slieve Moughanmore, Wee Moughanmore and Cock, but three is all you need for a great day out.
